Global Business 101

It’s a small, yet extremely connected world. It certainly is in terms of the ability to access information across the globe and the connectivity with business leaders and other important decision makers from every part of the world. This is more evident than in global business, a term that encompasses any organization or company that conducts business outside its home country.

Businesses of all sizes need to ensure that they are ready to face the challenges of global trade. This means understanding the nuances, politics and implications of international business, and being able to work with partners and colleagues in other countries than their own.

The undergraduate Journal of Global Business and Trade (JGBT) includes research papers reports, articles, and commentary that pertain to the area of global business. It’s also an official journal of the Consortium for Undergraduate International Business Education (CUIBE).

It is important to understand what cultural differences can impact the performance of your business abroad regardless of whether you’re a company owner who is thinking of entering international markets, or simply want to make sure that your team is prepared. It is important to learn the customs, holidays, and social norms that are prevalent in the different cultures you could encounter when conducting global business. This is a great method to improve your “export intelligence.” It can also be beneficial to know what to expect from business partners in other countries, for example, the different levels of comfort in personal space or how to greet a colleague in a different language.
